Journey into the ADHD Mind
Strategies for working with ADHD clients
I wrote this book for colleagues, supervisees, trainees, and coaches to provide the structure of how to work with ADHD clients. A structure that is easy to follow a counsellor or psychotherapist from any modality. I combine the psychological treatment while addressing the neurodivergent elements. In this book, we address the different types of ADHD and understand the symptoms of each. We take a journey to understand what is happening in the ADHD client’s head, thoughts, feelings, sensations, and behaviour. We look at procrastination, motivation, and masking in detail. We go beyond understanding and awareness, we learn how to manage these different areas and create a treatment plan to work with the client. The book is illustrated with charts, tables, and drawings to visually demonstrate the process.
I am a neurodivergent myself with dyslexia and ADHD and also a mother of a teenager who has dyslexia and ADHD.
I am enjoying empowering neurodivergent clients and trainees. While the work can be challenging at times, the reword of the individual discovering their own potential is priceless. The journey of becoming aware of what drains a person and how can they soothe themselves, learning to manage emotions and unlocking brain capacity is a liberating experience.
